Out walks Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) to the gasp of the awaiting crowd when they discover he is leaning heavily on a cane and follows a pathway on the pavement. He gets to the end of the path, and leaves the cane behind, stuck into the ground. And then he leans over and is about to fall...  finishes with a somersault.  The crowd applauds in delight.  opens the gates and leads the ticket winners inside.

Tall chimneys belch smoke. But not a soul is in sight, not a house nearby, and an air of mystery hangs over the mighty building. Above the gates, in enormous letters, we can just make out the word: WONKA.  (Peter Ostrum) is gripping the bars of the gates, pushing his small face through a gap in the bars, staring up at the factory windows.
